The Fire Brigade Historical Society offers a look at the history of fire-fighting services in the Canberra region, with a collection focused on preserving historically significant artefacts. It is based in the historic Forrest Fire Station, giving the visit a strong connection to the local story it documents.
A number of restored fire appliances are on display, spanning from 1913 to the mid-1980s. The collection includes additional appliances in storage because of space limitations, so the public display represents part of the Society’s broader preservation work rather than a complete collection.
Formed in 1979, the Society welcomes the general public to visit the museum on Saturdays from 10am to 2pm. It suits visitors interested in Canberra’s history, emergency services and restored vehicles, whether visiting independently or as part of a casual local outing. A donation is appreciated and helps support the Society’s ongoing projects. Visitors should check the Society’s Facebook page for updates before making the trip.
Spot Score
The Spot Score is our composite of five signals — two about the venue's standing with visitors and three about how complete and current this listing is. It is not a visitor rating and not a verdict on the food or the experience. The 4.8 from 53 reviews is Google's visitor rating, shown separately and never altered by us.
