Why it's worth checking out

StrengthXP is a private, appointment-only gym in Woden, Canberra, located off Athllon Drive just south of Westfield Woden. It focuses on practical strength training in a quieter setting than a traditional commercial gym, with no mirrors, large crowds or pressure to fit a particular image. Sessions are coach-led and numbers are capped, giving members space to concentrate while still being part of a supportive training community.

The gym offers several ways to train. Small Group Personal Training is designed for adults aged 18 and over, combining an individual program with the encouragement of a group of two to five members. Private Coaching provides one-on-one support for people who want more individual attention, are managing an injury or are working towards a specific goal. Animal Flow adds full-body strength and mobility work. Sessions generally run for around 45 to 60 minutes and may include functional movement, mobility and core training aimed at helping people move more comfortably in everyday life.

The equipment is centred on strength work, including barbells, dumbbells, squat racks, kettlebells, battle ropes, medicine balls and a Rogue Echo Bike. The space is described as clean, uncluttered and purpose-built for small-group training, with a calm, welcoming feel rather than the atmosphere of a busy commercial gym. StrengthXP also identifies as an LGBTQIA+-friendly space and says its programs can be adapted for previous injuries or ongoing conditions, making it suitable for people who may feel uncertain about returning to exercise.

Founder Tim Sandeman established StrengthXP to help people who felt intimidated by gyms or did not know where to begin. His background includes a Bachelor of Human Nutrition, Certificate III and IV in Fitness, and qualifications in Animal Flow, nutrition coaching, kettlebells, boxfit and mindset coaching. Beginners are explicitly welcome, including people who have never lifted weights, while more experienced members can use the coaching to build on their existing training. New members can book a free introduction to discuss their goals, experience and starting point before choosing a training or membership option.

The Spot Score is our composite of five signals — two about the venue's standing with visitors and three about how complete and current this listing is. It is not a visitor rating and not a verdict on the food or the experience. The 5.0 from 38 reviews is Google's visitor rating, shown separately and never altered by us.
